transforming the floor plans of an apartment We adapted the floor plan of this apartment prior to its construction to fulfill the client's creative wishes in collaboration with fatkoehl Architekten, the original floor plan’s designers. Inspired by the motto ‘living on the edge’, we moved the staircase to the center of the apartment. In doing so, we divided the upper floor into four separate areas. Daily life thus revolves around the central staircase which is flanked by a custom kitchen cabinet that functions as a room divider and defines the visual axis. This way, the kitchen is connected to the dining room, but hidden from the living room. As a result the upper floor’s functionality and, above all, privacy, have been greatly enhanced.
